New Stunner Technology Decreases Poultry Downgrades
CANTON, Ga. (Jan. 17, 2001) — Poultry processors can decrease bird downgrades caused by muscle contractions during the stunning process with Dapec's new technology.
The new water stunning system uses high-frequency stunning to drain more blood from chickens, reducing bloodspots and meat discoloration.
The system operates with a patented computer-controlled stunning device that determines the optimal power needed by measuring the body resistance of the birds in the bath 60 times each second. The stunner, a fiberglass water bath on a stainless steel frame, can handle 200 birds each minute.
