Butterball Turkey to Sell Plant, Hatchery In California

Butterball Turkey Co., a unit of ConAgra Inc., is selling its Turlock, CA, processing plant and feed mill and Fresno, CA, hatchery to Foster Farms (Livingston, CA). The hatchery will continue to operate under Butterball Management until September 30. The transaction is scheduled to be completed by July 30.

The sale is part of ConAgra's restructuring plan to eliminate 7,000 people and save $600 million over three years. The deal will affect 695 employees at all three facilities. The number of ConAgra job elimination's now stands at 1,933.

Foster Farms, a privately owned poultry company, will continue to produce Butterball products at the Turlock plant.
