Ascom Completes Industry's First Comprehensive ROI Study On 'Smart Integration' For Food Processing And Poultry Industry

Research Triangle Park, NC - Ascom Wireless Solutions Inc. (AWS) is pleased to announce that they have just completed the industry's first comprehensive ROI study demonstrating the benefits of integrating multiple food processing control systems with Ascom wireless communication solutions.

The study clearly demonstrates the value of "Smart Integration" with the Ascom wireless solution by helping food processing plants increase employee safety, ensure product quality, increase productivity, streamline communications, increase customer satisfaction and employee morale. Carolina Turkeys has the Ascom Freeset DCT1900+ system, the UNITE Messaging Suite and 9d24 Protector portable handsets integrated with their existing production control systems in the Further Processing areas of the facility.

"The Ascom system has enabled us to advance the safety of our products and employees while increasing productivity and efficiency. Ascom solutions have allowed us to integrate our production systems and provide automated text messages and alerts to our plant personnel more quickly and efficiently than in the past. This has enabled us to intercept problems before they lead to potential HACCP failures, product downgrades or losses." says Mike Bliss, Vice President of Operations at Carolina Turkeys.

"The Ascom system has revolutionized our communication versus radios. We are able to retrieve and answer voicemail and make phone calls without going back to our office. The Ascom system has saved time by enabling us to reach each other while on the processing floor." says Steve Swan, Director of Further Processing at Carolina Turkeys. The results of the ROI study indicate that Carolina Turkeys achieved a return on investment of less than nine months and will continue saving throughout the life of the system. "While the ROI for any given facility will vary based on the particular configurations and integrations, this study clearly shows the value of Smart Integration" says Tom McKearney, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Ascom Wireless Solutions Inc.

"We are pleased our partnership with Carolina Turkeys has given us the ability to quantify the real value and benefits of using a wireless communication solution", says McKearney, "This model will serve as a guideline for all food processing plants as a way to improve efficiency and excellence." This study was performed at Carolina Turkeys in Mt. Olive, NC. Carolina Turkeys is one of the world's largest turkey processing plants. Carolina Turkeys' fully integrated operation combines diagnostic labs, research farms, breeder farms, hatcheries, growing farms and feed mills. Production runs around the clock, with more than 550 million pounds of turkey currently processed each year for distribution throughout the U.S. and overseas.
