Presentation: Shelf-Life Evaluation: Combining Barrier And Package Integrity Measurement To Successfully Achieve A Viable System

This presentation from MOCON will outline the following: permeation measurement methodology, package integrity, traditional flow leak detection methods, Poiseuille's Law, and general cautions in evaluating leak size results.

Traditional Flow Leak Detection Methods Pressure/Vacuum

Pressure Method:

  • Hole size determination an art.
  • Higher cost pressure regulation required.
  • High cost flow sensor required.
  • Less sensitivity, packages burst & creep, therefore flow.
  • Complex integration with O2 HSA.
Vacuum Method:
  • Same as pressure, BUT
  • More sensitivity, no burst or creep.
  • Easier to integrate with O2 HSA.
  • Easier to integrate volume measurements.
  • Any flow indicates a leak.
